India’s healthcare system is becoming more digital day by day. Different health programs already use many apps and portals for reporting, monitoring, and healthcare services. But most of these systems operate independently, forcing healthcare workers to enter the same information repeatedly across different portals.
To solve this problem, the government launched the Swasth Bharat Portal. This new platform is designed to connect different healthcare systems in one place, reduce duplicate work, and improve healthcare services across India.
1. A One-Stop Platform for Multiple Health Programmes
The Swasth Bharat Portal serves as a central platform for many healthcare programs. It connects existing health systems through API-based integration.
Earlier, healthcare workers had to open different apps for different schemes and services. Now, this platform brings many national health programs together in a single system.
This will help:
- Simplify reporting
- Improve coordination
- Reduce extra workload
- Save time for healthcare workers
2. Reduces Repetitive Data Entry and Saves Time
One of the biggest problems for healthcare workers was entering the same patient information again and again into different applications. Workers like ASHAs, ANMs, Community Health Officers (CHOs), and Medical Officers often spend a lot of time doing repetitive data entry work.
The Swasth Bharat Portal aims to solve this problem by allowing information to be entered once and shared across multiple programs.
According to government estimates:
- Repetitive data entry may be reduced by 20–40%
- Healthcare staff can focus more on patient care and field visits
3. Supports Faster Decision-Making Through Data Integration
The portal also helps health authorities make faster and smarter decisions. It combines healthcare data from different programs into one digital system.
The platform includes data visualization tools that can help officials:
- Analyse healthcare information easily
- Monitor programmes better
- Make evidence-based decisions
This can improve:
- Reporting speed
- Coordination
- Healthcare planning
- Service delivery at district, state, and national levels
4. ABDM-Compliant and Linked to ABHA
The Swasth Bharat Portal follows the rules of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), India’s national digital health program.
It also supports integration with the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA), which helps in secure sharing of patient health records.
In the future, the portal may also connect with:
- Healthcare Professionals Registry (HPR)
- Health Facility Registry (HFR)
This can create a more connected digital healthcare ecosystem in India.
5. Expected to Reduce Costs and Improve Efficiency
The government believes this platform can help reduce healthcare system costs and improve efficiency.
Currently, many healthcare programs use separate
- Hosting systems
- Software teams
- Storage systems
The Swasth Bharat Portal can reduce this duplication by working as one common platform.
According to estimates:
- Infrastructure duplication may be reduce by 20-30%
- HR duplication may be reduce by 20-40%
Its API-based system can also improve:
- Interoperability
- Scalability
- Overall healthcare efficiency
